Backup to USB
By backing up your data to external USB devices, you protect it from several possible sources of data loss at once:
- User mistake. If you accidentally corrupted or deleted important files, you can quickly restore them from a backup.
- Malware and virus effects. If some malware destroys your data or disrupts the system, you'll be able to recover your PC probably not quickly and effortless, but without losing critical information.
- Hardware failure. Hard drives don’t last forever and sometimes they break down. Having a backup on an independent external device that you can use to continue your work instead of the main HDD is quite an elegant solution.
Today's USB hard drives, in fact, can be used as removable storage media: they are compact, transportable and very capacious. As compared to optical disks, backing up to USB is much more efficient: despite the fact that USB HDDs are expensive, they are a lot more convenient (a single device is enough for complete PC data backup), they feature high writing/reading speed and don’t require any hardware to use (Plug-and-Play technology enables you to freely connect and disconnect them).
In terms of backup, the biggest competitor to USB devices, of all optical discs, are Blu-ray discs. They are greatly capacious and more or less available, but require very expensive hardware for burning and reading their data. This makes backing up to Blu-Ray less advantageous than USB backup and in any case, it is more complicated for end users.
The market offers many USB backup devices that allow backing up HDD as a whole, with a single press of a button. While they work well for brute backups, it is more efficient to have some flexibility of configuration and use backup software combined with a "common" external USB drive.
We welcome you to try out Handy Backup - it's compatible with all types of local and external USB drives and is very flexible in configuration and use.
