Handy Backup / Support / FAQ / The CD-R/CD-RW option in the Task Wizard is disabled

The CD-R/CD-RW option in the Task Wizard is disabled

The CD-R/CD-RW option can be grayed out for several reasons:

  • Handy Backup can't detect any CD burning devices.

Make sure that you have a CD burning device and it is properly connected.

  • You don’t have an appropriate driver installed on your computer.

Download the Adaptec ASPI driver from the following URL: http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support/_eol/scsi_sw/ASPI-4.70/

  • If you are working under Windows 98, NT 4.0, Me or 2000:
    1. Run ASPIINST.EXE file to install the ASPI layer
    2. When the installation has finished, reboot the system in order to enable the ASPI driver.
  • If you use Windows XP or 2003:
    1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
    2. Click the Browse button.
    3. Locate the INSTALL.BAT file in the directory where the files were extracted to, and then click Open.
    4. In the dialog box, add 'XP32' to the command line. The result should look like this:
      • "c:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat XP32"
    5. Note: If you use Itanium processors, enter XP64 instead of XP32. The command will therefore read as follows:
      • c:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat XP64.
    6. Click OK to run the installer.
    7. When the installation is finished, reboot the system to enable the ASPI driver.
