Computer Synchronization
Comments: 0
There may be cases where you need to sync computers for example, sync a laptop that you use for travels and a desktop PC at home, or synchronize two networked computers at work so they both can use the same data. If you perform synchronization regularly, or even better, if it is made on a schedule or something triggers it, then you can always be assured that both PCs have the most up-to-date versions of all files.
Computer synchronization is also frequently performed for backup purposes (this process is sometimes referred to as PC data sync backup). Although this approach may be somewhat bulky (since synching assumes that two folders are merely brought to identical state, without compression or encryption), it can work too. In terms of backup, synchronization can be especially effective when you sync PC with an FTP server and store a copy of important data remotely, which enables you to restore it in case of a problem at your main computer.

How to Sync Computers
Handy Backup is a data backup and PC synchronization software that allows synchronizing folders that can be located on local or external HDD, in the network, or accessible via FTP. Depending on your goals and access rights, you can synchronize your own PC with a networked folder, or sync remote computer with local folders.
And even more: you can perform two-ways synchronization of computers, where contents of two folders or drives will be updated simultaneously to latest versions of the files. This procedure is also known as mirror backup in order to do it, it is necessary to define priorities for files with similar names (copy newer files, copy larger files, etc.)
Let’s say John wants to back up photos from his laptop to his home PC through computer synchronization. The first thing he needs to do is to check that both machines see each other in the network. Then it is necessary to share the respective folder on the desktop PC, so files in it can be updated. Finally, it is left to select both folders, and define files masks corresponding to pictures (to not copy videos, data files, etc.)
The same thing can be done through a backup task: you only need to select a folder on a laptop as a backup source and a desktop folder as a backup storage. Yes, it’s that easy!
