Remote Backup
Remote backup is a copy of a set of data (important documents, folders, database dumps, etc.) that is not located on the local computer's hard disk drive. As any other backup, it's purpose is to provide users with an opportunity to restore important information after accidental deletion, corruption, or other disaster.
Remote backups can be copied to removable media, such as a CD/DVD discs, or transferred to a distant storage like NAS, FTP server, specialized backup server, etc. In many environments, backup storage requirements include ensuring protection from fires, floods, theft and other disasters, which makes the use of "local" storage inappropriate.
Remote data backup services provide virtually the highest level of data protection, as they allow users to keep their backups offsite and forget about all storage, handling and safety measures. Many advanced users prefer to order online storage space without any supplementary services and use it to store their data backups via FTP or similar protocols.
