Sync Computers
There are a variety of reasons why you may encounter the challenge to synchronize multiple computers. Firstly, you may want to synchronize photos between your desktop and laptop computers that you use simultaneously, so you can have the most recent versions of your archives on them both. Secondly, computer synchronization can be done for backup purposes: in case of a failure of one PC, instead of instant drive recovery attempts you can continue working on another one. There can be many other appliances, e.g. sharing data for several people at once.
The bad side is that nothing sucks worse than syncing computers manually. The number of unexpected things that you may come across is so high that in virtually all cases it will be wise to use specialized PC sync software that writing your own scripts.
Let's see which features a computer sync utility should have.
- Support for all devices and protocols. It is not rare when you need to synchronize data stored not on your main hard drive, but, for instance, on an external storage connected via USB. Also, the second computer may be not just a networked workstation, but a remote FTP server. A good PC synchronization tool should provide as much flexibility as possible.
- Scheduling. By scheduling folder synchronization tasks, you can forget about them and leave them entirely to the software. This is especially effective in terms of backup, where an adequate level of data security is achieved only when backups are made regularly.
- File filtering and priority options. When syncing computers, there often arises a necessity to sync files of specific types only, e.g. Word documents, mp3s, or pictures. Well thought out PC backup and synchronization software provide an option of data filtering via file masks or some presets, and also allow specifying how should files with identical names be managed.
We strongly advise you to check all of the above options when choosing a computer synchronization software, for any needs. We've taken great efforts to develop them all (and much, much more) in Handy Backup - please check it out!
