Components of the Server edition are installed in the following order:
Note: You should only install Backup Workstations after the Server has been installed.
To install Server, launch the Handy Backup setup file. Server edition is installed the same way any other version is installed. Read the instructions on Installation...
Network Workstation is a client software that is installed on a user machine. It allows accessing data on this machine from a remote computer where the Server is installed. Workstations always run as Windows service.
You can install Workstations from the same setup file as Server, or make use of the built-in Workstation Creator.
General scheme is as follows:
When Server is successfully installed on your computer, you can use it to create Network Workstations.
Note: You can also use the default Handy Backup Workstation with predefined settings, which is stored in the Handy Backup Network Server installation directory (default path: C:\Program Files\Novosoft\Handy Backup\BackupNetworkWorkstation\). However, it is recommended to create Workstations by following the instructions below. This will allow you to adjust the settings more precisely.
Use one of the following approaches:
The Backup Network Workstation Settings dialog will appear.
Server host name: Network name or IP-address of the machine where the Server is installed.
Backup administrator login: The person who is authorized to back up data from remote machines. By default, this is the same person who installed the Server. However, you can specify a different administrator.
Workstation name: Name of the Workstation being created. You can choose among three available options:
Note: Use the Load defaults button to fill all fields with their default values.
The Save as dialog will appear where you can select the location to save the Workstation setup file. You can save it directly to the remote computer where it is going to be installed, or locally (by default this is the same folder as Server installation directory), and then transfer it to the machine on which you want to install the Workstation.
To install Handy Backup Server’s Workstation, launch the Workstation Żetup file.
To change settings of a Workstation, run the Backup Network Configuration file which is located in the Workstation installation directory on a remote machine where the Workstation is installed. The Workstation Settings dialog will appear.
If the Start button is disabled, it means that the Workstation is running. To change the settings of the Workstation, click Stop. The Workstation will be stopped. Then you can change the Workstation settings.
Important note: Handy Backup Server can only back up data from Workstation machine when the Workstation process is running. To run Workstation with the new settings, click Start. Then you can close the Workstation Settings dialog.
