Backing Up Oracle Database Data

By default, Oracle backups can be made with Full and Server editions of Handy Backup. The feature can also be made available in other editions if you supplement them with the Oracle Backup plug-in.

Hot and Cold Oracle Database Backup

In order to back up Oracle database without stopping it ("hot backup"), you need to enable the ARCHIVELOG mode. If the database runs in the NOARCHIVELOG mode, then it will be stopped, backed up, and then started again.

Oracle Backup Features

Here are some of the key features of backing up Oracle with Handy Backup:

Backing up local and remote Oracle databases. With Handy Backup Server, you can create backups of Oracle databases located on networked workstations. The only requirement is that Backup Network Workstation (client software for Handy Backup Server) needs to be launched by the user account with membership in the ORA_DBA group. Other editions are capable of backing up local Oracle databases only.

Easy data selection. The Oracle Backup plug-in lets you add Oracle data to backup tasks simply by clicking the respective item in the data selection menu.

Task scheduling. Each task can be run on demand or scheduled to take place automatically, in accordance with your company's data retention policy. Moreover, the utility can run as Windows service and perform all tasks in the background, absolutely imperceptibly.
