Backing Up Oracle Database Data

The Oracle Backup plug-in of Handy Backup provides a reliable way to back up Oracle database data without stopping the service (i.e. perform hot backup). The data that can be backed up includes:

• All database tables data
• Archive logs before and after the process of backing up
• SPFILE
• Controlfile
• All settings and passwords

Hot and Cold Oracle Database Backup

In order to back up Oracle database without stopping it ("hot backup"), you need to enable the ARCHIVELOG mode. If the database runs in the NOARCHIVELOG mode, then it will be stopped, backed up, and then started again.

The only requirement is that Backup Network Workstation (client software for Handy Backup Network Server) needs to be launched by the user account with membership in the ORA_DBA group. Other editions are capable of backing up local Oracle databases only.
• Easy data selection. The Oracle Backup plug-in lets you add Oracle data to backup tasks simply by clicking the respective item in the data selection menu.

• Backup scheduling. Each task can be run on demand or scheduled to take place automatically, in accordance with your company’s data retention policy. Moreover, our backup utility can run as Windows service and perform all tasks in the background, absolutely imperceptibly.
