Do I need to stop the Exchange Server to perform a backup?

Handy Backup performs hot Exchange backup, i.e. creating the backup doesn’t require you to stop the service. However, restoration of MS Exchange requires several steps to be done.

What do I need to do to restore MS Exchange on my computer?

To restore MS Exchange Server, you need to dismount the databases you want to restore via the MS Exchange System Manager and then run a usual restoration task with Handy Backup. The operation will overwrite the selected databases on the MS Exchange Server. For details, please refer to the MS Exchange Backup and Restore in the User Manual.

Note: We recommend that only technically qualified persons perform the restoration of MS Exchange Server. Incorrect use of the MS Exchange Server restore operation can lead to irreversible damage of your MS Exchange Server data.

What Handy Backup edition do I need to back up MS Exchange?

By default, the MS Exchange Server backup feature is included into Handy Backup Small Server and Handy Backup Network Server editions.

Note: Backing up 64-bit version of MS Exchange located on a remote computer (in Handy Backup Network Server) requires you to have Handy Backup Workstation x64 installed on it. 64-bit workstations are licensed similarly to common workstations. Can I schedule MS Exchange Server backups with Handy Backup?

Yes, Handy Backup allows you to set a daily, weekly or monthly schedule for your tasks, depending on your needs. You may also re-run any finished task (without creating a new one), or edit any of the existing tasks and apply a new schedule to them whenever you want.

Do I need to have any special system privileges to perform MS Exchange backup and restore?

For correct operation, you need to be logged under an account with Windows Backup and Restore privileges.

Is there a way to back up users' Personal Folders (.PST files) if they never log out?

Microsoft Exchange Server clients are disconnected from .PST files after 30 minutes of idleness. To ensure accessibility to the .PST files, you need to schedule backup tasks for periods of inactivity (e.g. at nights).

What is the difference between MS Exchange Server 2010, 2007, 2003 and the earlier versions?
