Handy Backup 6.5 features differential backup capability which enables you to back up only changes in files, on a byte level, and greatly save drive space required for regular backups. This is a very powerful function which is great for backing up large amounts of data, such as databases or HDD images.

Handy Backup 6.4, released on October 23, 2009

• Handy Backup 6.4 received a "Compatible with Windows 7" logo verifying its compatibility with the newly released Microsoft operating system! Now all users can safely migrate and back up Windows 7 data - the program is proven to work on it correctly and error free!


• Outlook Backup plug-in now works more correctly under multilingual versions of Windows. Earlier, some users had problems when they tried to back up Outlook data from under non-English user accounts.

• We've further improved the MS SQL Backup plug-in which now requires less disk space for temporary files.


• Handy Backup underwent several architectural changes that made it more stable under 64-bit platforms: it's not yet completely compatible with all systems, but most functions should work error free.

Handy Backup 6.3.1, released on August 19, 2009

The new 6.3.1 version of Handy Backup has several important improvements and fixes.

• MS SQL backup can now be performed not only locally, but also on Backup Network Workstation managed by Handy Backup Server (on a client-server scheme).

Handy Backup 6.3.0, released on July 27, 2009

The new versions of Handy Backup and Handy Backup Server present a great lot of useful enhancements, fixes and updates:

1. We have considerably optimized internal architecture of the program: it became much more resource-friendly and can now back up large numbers of files with reasonable memory consumption. Earlier, it was advised to split large backup sets into several tasks with no more than 250.000 files per task. Now Handy Backup successfully backs up 1 million files and more - we hope that our users will find this improvement useful and helpful.
2. The change in the program's logic revealed another advantageous outcome: task execution time became almost twice as fast, and the refreshing is now performed 10 times faster.
3. We are happy to introduce Handy Backup Console Client, a new module of Handy Backup which is available in the default installation folder as hbcc.exe. It allows launching Handy Backup's tasks through command line interface. For details on its usage, please refer to Command Line in the User Manual.
4. Handy Backup is on its way to compatibility with 64-bit platforms. Currently we've tested all functionality related to file backup and data synchronization under 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and 2008/2003 Server.
5. MS SQL Backup plug-in has also been made compatible with 64-bit platforms. All in all, Handy Backup now supports 32- and 64-bit versions of MS SQL 7.0, 2000, 2005 and 2008.
6. Updated Outlook Backup plug-in now lets you back up Outlook Express/Outlook/Windows Mail folders with names different than the default ones.
7. We've released a new version of Handy Backup Web Access, to keep in step with the changes in Handy Backup's client-server interaction scheme. Note: The new version does not work correctly with Handy Backup 6.2.5 and earlier, so it is highly recommended to update both programs to the latest versions.
8. Also, there are many updates to user interface of the program, including new "Success with error" status, new step in the New Task Wizard in Expert Mode (allows enabling e-mail notifications and programs to be launched before and after task execution), improved task progress bar, and much more...

Handy Backup 6.2.5 and Handy Backup Server 6.2.5, released on 6 May, 2009

We are happy to announce the new versions of our key products, featuring:

1. Important fixes of interaction of the program with remote FTP servers. Earlier, in some cases, the program failed to restore data generated by plug-ins (MS Exchange Backup, Oracle Backup, DB2 Backup and other) from FTP. Also, the program now works more correctly when working from behind a proxy server. If you experienced any proxy-related problems with backing up to FTP, in the new version they shouldn't appear anymore.
2. Important enhancements to backing up to CD and backing up to DVD. Earlier, under some system configurations, the program incorrectly backed up data to optical discs. In the first place, this regards the operation of MS SQL Server Backup plug-in and some other plug-ins.
3. Improved ODBC Database Backup plug-in. Now it became much more stable and accurate: algorithms of interaction with various DBMS were considerably improved and optimized. The new algorithms allow the plug-in to adjust to different databases better. For instance, you will now have no problems when backing up PostgreSQL databases.
4. The Image Backup plug-in now performs restoration of data in a different sequence. Earlier, the program restored data sectors, and then the partition table. Now the restoration procedure firstly writes the partition table, and then the data.
5. The creation of remote folders with the SFTP Backup plug-in has been fixed.
6. Also, there are several updates related to the program's GUI.

Handy Backup 6.2.4, released on 2 April, 2009

• The new Oracle Backup plug-in for backing up Oracle databases was added to the program functionality. Similarly to other database-related plug-ins, it is available in Handy Backup Full and Handy Backup Server, or can be added to other editions as an additional plug-in.

Handy Backup 6.2.3, released on 23 March, 2009.

The new version of Handy Backup/Handy Backup Server includes multiple advantageous updates and enhancements:

1. A new Mobile Devices Backup plug-in for performing T-Mobile G1 Backup has been created. It is available in all editions of Handy Backup and allows backing up data stored on Google Phone through the use of the common program's interface. The first release supports backing up G1 contacts only - the other data including all media and messages will become available in the nearest future.
2. Handy Backup 6.2.3 features important improvement to files-based backup processing. Earlier, under some circumstances, Handy Backup didn't perform very well when backing up large numbers of files. With the new version it is possible to back up hundreds of thousands of files - quickly and error free.
3. There are many other small modifications and bug fixes that make Handy Backup more stable and efficient. Update it right now, it's free!

Version 6.2.2 of Handy Backup and Handy Backup Server, released on December 25th, 2008.

1. Outlook Backup plug-in has been fixed. Now Handy Backup successfully backs up Outlook data (including Outlook Express backup and Windows Mail backup), regardless of current GUI status. Earlier, some users experienced problems when backing up Outlook with opened Handy Backup GUI.


2. Lotus Notes/Domino Backup plug-in has been improved. Now the program exploits Windows environmental variables more correctly, and meets no problems if path to Lotus Notes file is different than the default one.


3. A new DB2 Backup plug-in has been added to functionality of Handy Backup Full edition. It allows backing up IBM's DB2-based data servers, and gives more accurate results than the use of standard utility's Database Backup plug-in.

Handy Backup 6.2 and Handy Backup Server 6.2, released on October 14, 2008

2. The latest versions of Handy Backup and Handy Backup Server have also been made compatible with non-Windows platforms, when launched under Wine. At present, the software have been tested and proven to work under Debian Linux with kernel 2.6.x. For other *nix systems they may not work properly, but the development is in progress. Handy Backup 6.1 and Handy Backup Server 6.1, released on June 07, 2008

There are several important changes in the new 6.1 versions of Handy Backup and Handy Backup Server:

1. Outlook and Outlook Express plug-ins used in Handy Backup 6.0 and earlier were replaced with a new common Outlook plug-in. The new plug-in incorporates two previous features and also includes support for Outlook 2007 backup and Windows Mail backup.
2. Enhanced user interface: now the Task View window allows sorting tasks by name, type, status, etc. for easier task management.
3. The opportunity to export and import program configuration was added to the program. Note: Configuration exported from versions 5.8 and earlier is incompatible with Handy Backup 6.1. To import task and settings, simply install the new version above the old one and all data will be converted automatically.

Handy Backup 6.0, released on January 24, 2008

The new 6.0 version of Handy Backup has gained a number of new features and general changes.

1. Handy Backup has earned the "Works with Windows Vista^™" logo which means that Microsoft® has tested the application for baseline compatibility with PCs running the Windows Vista operating system and found it satisfying all requirements of availability, reliability, security, and supportability.
   The "Works with Windows Vista" logo provides confidence that the core functionality of Handy Backup will work with Windows Vista and deliver superior user experiences under any system configuration. Handy Backup is proven to be free of malware, have necessary Authenticode certificates and follow all policies required for the best performance.
2. “Run as Windows service” feature is now included into Handy Backup 6.0 Standard package. It allows configuring Handy Backup to run as Windows service and perform all tasks even if the user is not logged on.
3. Synchronization task has gained enhanced files selection through the use of file masks. Now you can choose specific files that you need to synchronize: e.g. Microsoft Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
4. Handy Backup 6.0 and Handy Backup Server 6.0 now have a common installation file which fully satisfies Microsoft requirements and allows choosing which product you would like to install on your computer.
5. A new MS SQL backup plug-in, which allows backing up not only MSSQL tables, but also all views, indexes, constraints, and other database data. The plug-in performs more accurate backups than the common Database Backup plug-in. For more details, please refer to MSSQL backup features.

Handy Backup Server 6.0, released on January 15, 2008

Novosoft has released a new 6.0 version of the corporate backup solution Handy Backup Server.
The new version features advanced workstation backup and allows protecting data that previously could have been saved with central server backup only. Now you can perform image-based workstation backup, as well as backup MS Exchange Server and Lotus Notes data stored on network computers.

Handy Backup 5.8, released on September 05, 2007

Novosoft has released version 5.8 of Handy Backup with a new feature of backup verification. Now you can verify your backups after burning them to CD, DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD disks. Since optical disks sometimes fail, this is of much importance and provides an additional level of security. Unlike many other products that perform file names and sizes check only, Handy Backup ensures that all the data on the destination disk is readable and the files were backed up without any errors. Handy Backup 5.7.0, released on May 08, 2007

The first server version released. Handy Backup Server backs up data stored on multiple machines in a network just as easily as doing backup from a local machine. To do the backup, the administrator no longer has to approach each user machine separately, as backup, restore and synchronization operations are managed from a central server.

Handy Backup 5.6.0, released on February 19, 2007

The program's functionality has been extended with such features as Backup to Blu-Ray and Backup to HD-DVD. These features allow backing up even larger amounts of important data to the new generation storage media. With the new Handy Backup version you will be able to back up up to 60 GB of important information to a single disk.

Moreover, Handy Backup is now compatible with Vista OS.

Handy Backup 5.5.0, released on January 26, 2007

A number of new popular features have been added to the program functionality. The features include Database Backup, Image Backup, Lotus Notes Backup and Email Backup. Now Handy Backup can back up databases which have ODBC driver support such as MySQL, MS Access, and DB2. With the help of Image Backup feature users can back up the entire hard drive of their computer or the hard drive partitions. Lotus Notes backup feature allows backing up all data of the Lotus Notes application. Email backup functionality allows backing up messages directly from the remote mail server.

Handy Backup 5.4.8, released on January 19, 2007

A new 5.4.8 release of the 5.4 tree, just appeared on the product website, fixes recently discovered bugs and presents a number of enhancements that make users more comfortable deploying the program and considerably increase data protection. Fixed multiple issues causing problems when backing up to and restoring from FTP/SFTP servers, errors which occurred when synchronizing files and folders were eliminated, backup to DVD option errors were corrected, errors arising when using Online Backup option were removed, temporary files created during backup procedures are now being deleted. Many other code cleanups and important corrections have been done.

Handy Backup 5.4.6.1, released on September 15th, 2006
