If Handy Backup closes unexpectedly, a crash dump file can help our support engineers identify the cause of the problem. It contains technical information about the state of the application at the time of the error and may provide details that are not visible in a standard error message.

If support asks you to provide a crash dump, you can find the relevant files in the Handy Backup program data folder and send the most recent ones together with a short description of what happened.

What Is a Crash Dump File?

A crash dump file is a diagnostic file created when an application encounters a serious error or closes unexpectedly. It records technical information that can help developers understand what the program was doing when the problem occurred.

Crash dumps are used for troubleshooting. They are not backup copies of your files and cannot be used to restore data.

In many cases, a dump file provides information that is not included in a regular error message. This can help the Handy Backup support team identify the cause of a crash more quickly.

Where to Find Handy Backup Crash Dump Files

In Handy Backup 8, crash dump files are stored in the following folder:

C:\ProgramData\Novosoft\Handy Backup 8\Crashdumps

The ProgramData folder is hidden by default in Windows. You do not need to enable hidden folders to open it. Enter C:\ProgramData directly into the File Explorer address bar, then open the Novosoft, Handy Backup 8, and Crashdumps folders.

If several dump files are available, check their creation dates. The files created at or shortly after the time of the problem are usually the most useful for troubleshooting.

How to Send Crash Dumps to Handy Backup Support

If our support team asks for crash dump files, select the relevant files and compress them into a ZIP archive. If you are not sure which dump is related to the issue, you can include several of the most recent files.

Along with the archive, describe what happened before Handy Backup stopped working. Include the backup task you were running, the action that triggered the problem, and whether the same issue occurs again when you repeat those steps.

Support may also ask you to provide Handy Backup logs or task files. These additional details can help our engineers compare the crash information with the events recorded by the application.

Once you have collected the requested information, send the archive and your description to Handy Backup Support.

After the issue has been resolved and the necessary diagnostic files have been sent, old crash dump files can be removed if you no longer need them for troubleshooting.
