Exchange Server Calendar
Exchange Server Calendar is the calendar functionality built into Microsoft Exchange Server and associated with Exchange mailboxes. It allows users to create appointments, schedule meetings, send invitations, manage reminders, and share calendar information with other users in the organization.
Calendar data is stored as part of the user's Exchange mailbox. This means that appointments, meetings, reminders, attendees, locations, and related calendar information are maintained together with other mailbox data inside the Exchange environment.
What Does an Exchange Server Calendar Store?
An Exchange calendar can contain individual appointments, meeting requests, recurring events, reminders, locations, attendees, categories, attachments, and other information related to scheduled activities.
Users usually work with this data through Microsoft Outlook or Outlook on the web, while Exchange Server stores and manages the underlying calendar items as part of the mailbox.

The mailbox itself is stored in an Exchange Mailbox Database. As a result, calendar information forms part of the broader Exchange mailbox data that administrators manage, replicate, and back up.
Shared and Resource Calendars
Exchange Server also supports shared calendars and resource mailboxes. For example, a room mailbox can represent a conference room and maintain its own calendar for meeting reservations.
Users with the appropriate permissions can view or manage shared calendar information, while Exchange processes meeting requests and booking rules according to the mailbox configuration.
Exchange Server Calendar Backup
Because Exchange calendar data is stored inside a mailbox, backing up Exchange mailbox data can also preserve appointments, meetings, reminders, and other calendar items.
Backup planning should therefore consider the Exchange mailbox database as a whole rather than treating calendar entries as isolated files. Recovery requirements may include restoring an entire database, a mailbox, or specific mailbox content depending on the available backup method.
